Janet Street Development - Work Completed

Pentland Housing Association received approval from Communities Scotland in March 2003 to build six new homes for rent on the site of a former carpet store at the upper end of Janet Street .

Local contractor Steven Joiners were employed on a Design and Build Contract with local Architect Knight & MacDonald for the design. The project was started in April of 2004 and the houses were handed over by the contractor to Pentland Housing Association on 11 March 2005

The properties are of a timber framed construction on a concrete foundation externally clad in block and harl but with a front façade feature of rough sawn larch. The windows are fully reversible high performance double glazed timber windows and the roofs are covered with interlocking concrete tiles. All the properties have fully fitted kitchens and have full electric central heating.

The houses are built to full Housing for Varying Needs standards and take account of sustainability and energy efficiency issues. The project consists of 4 x two bedroom flats and 2 x three bedroom bespoke wheelchair houses which have been specially designed to meet the particular needs of the families that are now living in the houses
